David Bullock, 75, of The Dalles, is missing.
According to Hood River Sherriff Matt English, Bullock was hiking with his wife north of Laurance Lake Thursday when he left her prior to noon. Bullock dropped all of his gear and supplies to check out an area near where they had stopped.
Bullock, who was wearing a t-shirt and shorts, reportedly walked from the area with his three dogs.
He is described as an experienced hiker in “pretty good shape.” Laurance Lake is southwest of Parkdale near Mt. Hood in the upper Hood River valley.
Around 4 p.m., his wife contacted the sheriff’s office, who put up an aircraft and a hasty team from Hood River Reach and Treat.
“We were unable to get military assets last night and efforts to locate Mr. Bullock via cell phone location were unsuccessful,” English said. “Today, we have searchers from the Crag Rats and Pacific Northwest SAR on site. Additionally, Mt. Wave communication has been contacted for help and the military is sending a Lakota helicopter equipped with FLIR, weather permitting.”
If necessary, other organizations are lined up to staff afternoon searches today and all day Saturday. English said.
