Secretary of Interior announces funding for Spring Creek Hatchery

In addition, the company will replace service switchgear, transfer switching components, motor controller centers and pump motor control components.

"The work done by these fish hatcheries is critical to maintaining our continued commitment to environmental, tribal and commercial habitat and fishing concerns," Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar said. "This project will greatly reduce energy use at the hatchery and provide quality jobs for local skilled tradesmen."

NMS is an operations and maintenance contractor with a particularly strong history in electrical/mechanical design and repair.

"The existing pumps were installed in the early 1970s by the Corps of Engineers, have never been replaced and are now pushing 40 years-old," Spring Creek NFH Project Leader Larry Marchant said. "The new variable speed pumps greatly increase our energy efficiency, and the switchgear and motor control centers help provide protection and security. Ultimately, our increased productivity will benefit commercial, tribal and recreational fishermen."

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act passed in 2009 gave $3 billion to the Department of the Interior.

The ARRA funds are part of a stimulus package that is an important component of the President's plan to jumpstart the economy and put a down payment on addressing long-neglected challenges so the country can thrive in the 21st century.
