The Full Sail Brew Pub will be rocking with the sounds of Jessie Rae and the Blue Turtles on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 8 to 11 p.m.
Jessie Rae is perhaps best described as "roots pop" with a dynamic mix of pop, blues and rock with a salsa/reggae influence. The band combines acoustic and electric instruments with their own subtle sophistication and under-stated style.
The members of Jessie Rae first met when they earned their living as traveling forest workers. No matter where they went, they would pack their guitars and drums and find a way to play music together. They'd just pitch a tent, set up the drums, plug the guitars into a pig-nose amp and start jamming. Joan Meyer, Lauren Semler and Jeff Graham have found ways to play together ever since.
Band member's have performed in a variety of acclaimed bands before coming together as Jessie Rae. Joan performed with the all-women band TranSister and later with Shards of Lace, Lonesome Taxi & Oversol. Lauren performed R&B, blues and rock with Shakabuku.
Jessie Rae will be featured on a CD compilation to benefit Habitat for Humanity. They also won third place in the Stayton Battle of the Bands contest and have a new CD out that is getting rave reviews for its great vocals and musical back-up.
Reviewer Ben Ohmart had this to say, "A full service band giving you lots of sounds, styles, attitudes. But mostly a gentle kindness you don't hear too often anymore. This is what I carry away from Jessie Rae/ And I'm very thankful for it."
The Saturday Hood River performance will be a benefit for Columbia Riverkeeper with tickets at the door for $5.
