Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Diane Elizabeth (Keever) Newson passed away on Dec. 28, 2024, at her home in The Dalles, Oregon, after a two-year battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Diane was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, on June 24, 1949, to Darlene (Martin) Keever and Dillard Keever. Diane had two older sisters, Carolyn (McDowell) Luper (Charles) and Sharon (McDowell) Groce (Gary), and four younger siblings, Gary Keever (Janet), Vivian Keever, Vickie (Keever) Lopez and Randy Keever (Cindy).
Diane and her family moved to Hood River, Oregon, in 1964. After graduating from Hood River High School and then working at several restaurants in Hood River (The Golden Rose, The Ranch Drive In and Tom's Drive In), Diane moved to The Dalles in 1979.
Diane worked at several businesses in The Dalles: Newberry's Department Store, the Sears store and then Urness Motors, where she had worked for more than 20 years before her health prevented her from working anymore.
Diane is survived by her son Josh Hunt, her two grand dogs and her husband (and love of her life), Tom Newson, whom she married in August of 1994. They were married 30 years in August 2024. Diane had numerous nieces and nephews in Missouri, Arizona, California and Oregon. She loved them all but she had a special bond and particular fun with her niece Jamie Keever-Barzee. They were partners in crime while shopping and exploring new places and restaurants.
Diane had many interests! She loved country music, family, the color red, playing poker machines and playing dice with her family. She loved bowling, reading, cooking/baking and traveling (including a cruise, a trip to Hawaii and trips with family to both Reno and Las Vegas). She enjoyed Christmas and collecting various collectibles with sunflowers being her most recent love. For those who knew Diane well, they knew she enjoyed laughing as much as she enjoyed bossing people around!
A celebration of life will be held 1-4 p.m. at Spooky's Pizza in The Dalles on Saturday, Jan. 25.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
