The Columbia River Conference champion Hood River Valley Eagles capped a perfect 6-0 league slate with a goal in each half to pull off a 2-0 home victory Tuesday against The Dalles.
Hood River got on the board nearly midway through the opening half with a goal and held that 1-0 going into the final 40 minutes.
Still nursing a one-goal lead, the Eagles found a way to add another goal at the 62-minute mark to produce the final margin.
For playing on a slick field, under the lights against a top-10 team, TD head coach Colby Tonn liked what he saw from his group overall.
“(The girls) played well and composed, it just didn’t happen,” Tonn said. “We played to the corners pretty well, we just need to work on tracking back with the mark and finishing the play.”
Since a six-goal outburst in a big home win over Pendleton on Oct. 7, the Riverhawk offense has struggled of late with just three goals in the past four games.
It marked the sixth time this season that the Riverhawks have been held to one goal or less.
TD (6-7-1 overall, 2-4) will look to Hannah Walasavage, Brooke McCall, Kim Vazquez, Monique Mendiola, Jennifer Bonham and Emma Weir to get the offense back on track for their state play-in match next week.
“(We need to) do a better job of passing to the feet and being committed to attacking as a unit, not just a few,” Tonn said.
