Travis Hayes continued his torrid shooting pace with seven 3-pointers for a team-high 23 points to lead No. 12 South Wasco County to a lopsided 95-29 romp over Griswold in Big Sky Conference boy’s hoops action Friday in Maupin.
“It was good to see the team have a fast start (29 points) in first quarter,” said SWC head coach Jim Hull. “David (Ocacio) did an extraordinary job of getting his teammates involved and getting them great looks. We are playing at a high level right now and want to continue that trend.”
With Hayes feeling his oats, the rest of the Redsides kept pace with a 38 for 86 effort from the field, including 14 for 39 from 3-point range.
All 10 players on the roster hit the scoresheet, with the duo of Ty Herlocker and Skyler Anderson breaking free for a combined nine points on 4 of 8 shooting. Herlocker also added a career-high five blocks
Nathan Duling added 16 points, seven assists and four rebounds, and David Ocacio dropped 15 points and four steals.
Loreto Morelli and Ellis Rager added eight points each, and Brody Myers chipped in with seven points, seven rebounds, five steals and two blocks.
The Redside defense held Griswold to 11 of 50 from the floor, and committed 23 turnovers.
SWC (12-7 overall, 6-3 league) travels to Sherman for a critical league tussle at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night.
