THE DALLES golfer Colton Lee measures up his putt attempt in a varsity tournament played earlier this season at The Dalles Country Club. Wednesday at Indian Creek Golf Course in Hood River, Lee and the Riverhawks combined for a 423 on the scorecards for third place at the Hood River Invitational.
Chase Snodgrass carded an 87 for fifth place individually and The Dalles boy’s golf team totaled 423 at the Hood River Invitational Tournament Wednesday at Indian Creek Golf Course in Hood River.
Mark Felderman added a 93, Darsh Patel finished the day with a 102, Colton Lee picked up a 139 and freshman newcomer Luke Petroff capped the quintet with a 161 to account for the Riverhawks’ third-place team outcome.
Led by medalist winners Reilly Hegarty and Brandon Pulver, who each ended up with identical 81s, Pendleton (341) won the tournament crown by 11 strokes over Hermiston (352).
Hermiston’s Zack Adams wound up in third place after shooting an 82 and Hood River Valley’s Dan Kuechmann placed fourth with his 84.
“I was really pleased,” said The Dalles head golf coach Kent Smith. “As I was watching the guys play for four or five holes, along with the some of the fundamental type things, I am also going to spend more time with them on course management, selection of clubs to use, setting up shots and thinking even more than they have been doing.”
The Dalles hits Seaside Tourney
Monday at the Seaside Tournament on the Gerhart Golf Links, The Dalles had Mark Felderman shoot an 83 for 12th place overall and sophomore teammate Darsh Patel added a personal-best 92 to secure 25th place to lead the Riverhawks.
If not for a scorecard disqualification by Chase Snodgrass, TD could have picked up sixth place with a 368.
Seaside had five golfers finish in the top-5 out of the 50 entered and Aaron Richardson led the way with an even-par 72.
Silverton’s Michael Kuenzi ended up in second place after scoring a 76.
Seaside’s Kevin McCloskey had a 78 to clinch third, and the trio of Kenneth Sheldon, of Ilwaco, Wash., Sam Hinton (Seaside) and Shae Sitter (Seaside) all capped the top-5 with 79s.
Seaside won the tournament title with a 308, besting Scappoose (346) by 38 strokes.
Silverton (355), Tillamook (363), North Valley (366), Estacada (370), Ilwaco, Wash. (376), Astoria (381) and Baker (442) rounded out the overall standings.
On May 5, the Riverhawks get one more challenge before district regionals with a tournament in Umatilla at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5.
“We are trying to get them to better visualize everything as it comes to them and understand that is not just the upcoming shot, but rather the combination of that shot and what they are going to do to give themselves a better chance to lower those scores,” Smith said of the upcoming game plan moving forward. “Those are the types of things we need to continue working on.”
