Flying all over the court, the South Wasco County Redsides held Gilchrist to just seven field goals in scoring a 29-23 win Saturday in a consolation matchup played at the Culver Booster Club Tournament.
Of those seven made baskets, the Lady Grizzlies managed just three in the first half, as both teams wound up tied at 8-apiece at halftime.
SWC turned the tide in the second half and used a breakout third quarter to pad their lead.
Cassie and Madisen Davis hit two shots each, and freshman forward Jada Myers hit one field goal and went 3 for 4 from the line to lead the Redsides to a 12-4 run.
Ahead by a 20-12 margin at the start of the fourth quarter, Kiana Moody, Madisen Davis, Chloe Huot and Myers hit baskets and Abby Birman made good on a free throw, as the Lady Redsides were outscored 11-9, but the team was able to hold off a late rally to secure the six-point win.
“We are still trying to get confidence in our game,” said Redside head coach Bill Mead. “Second half of this game was far better than the whole tournament. It was a team effort from all.”
In all, SWC made 11 field goals, eight coming in the second half, and went 5 for 15 from the line, as Madisen Davis paced the offense with eight points.
Myers and Cassie Davis chipped in six points each, and Lindsey Hull, Birman, Moody and Huot added two points.
Cassandra Blum had a team-high 18 points and Charlene Berling had two points for the Grizzlies, who went 9 of 16 from the line to go with seven field goals.
With the win, SWC (3-3 overall) is now ranked 22nd in the state.
They pay host to Monument/Dayville (3-5) at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 2.
