The Dufur Rangers led by one point entering the fourth quarter, but Southwest Christian went on a 9-5 run to hold on for the 33-30 win Wednesday in 1A Hoop Classic action in Dufur.
“We played well and had opportunities to win,” said Dufur head coach Jack Henderson. “It was a great effort by our girls.”
Southwest Christian (6-6 overall) got off to a top start in the first quarter, taking a 9-5 advantage, but the Rangers got things moving in the second quarter.
Alexus Outlaw and Emily DePriest hit a 3-pointer each, and Sydney Reed and Chloe Beeson hit jumpers to give Dufur 10 points in the second frame, but the Wildcats hit for 13 points to go ahead 22-14 at the half.
In the third quarter, the Ranger defense clamped down, holding Southwest without a field goal, and totaled four baskets and three free throws to cap an 11-2 run to make it a 25-24 Dufur lead.
Reed paced Dufur in the third quarter with two field goals and 3 of 4 free throws, and Beeson dropped two baskets to give their team the lead.
Laticia Macias hit Dufur’s lone fourth-quarter field goal and the rest of the team made good on 3 of 6 shots from the line, as Southwest notched three field goals and three free throws to complete the comeback.
All told, the Lady Rangers hit 10 field goals and shot 7 of 17 from the line, as Reed paced the team with 11 points, Beeson added 10 and the trio of Outlaw, Macias and DePriest had three points to round out the scoring leaders.
Hannah Court scored nine points, and both Erin Mulder and Marissa Haas added eight points.
Dufur High School (1-7) is in Maupin versus South Wasco County (3-3) for a league tilt at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 8.
