Baily Hogenkamp and Ally Muhleman converted on 40 of 41 swings and a combined 11 kills, and The South Wasco County volleyball team added 13 aces in a three-game sweep over Sherman Tuesday in Big Sky Conference play in Moro.
With the road win, the Redsides (13-11 overall, 7-7 league) ended their regular season in fifth place and chalked up a spot in a district play-in matchup at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Arlington, who finished fourth in league.
Riding a streak of five wins in the past six matches, SWC came out strong against the Huskies to post a 25-18 win in the opening set.
The Redsides then dominated the second set by a lopsided 25-9 margin, before completing the sweep, their fifth of the season, with a 25-18 output to clinch a postseason berth.
Hogenkamp, Ana Popchock and Madisen Davis each had three service aces apiece on 41 of 44 from the line.
Tatum Hahn added three digs, Allie Noland had four kills, an ace and a dig, and Jacqueline Noland chipped in with four kills and two aces.
Overall, the Lady Redsides had 25 kills and eight hitting errors on 79 swings. The team was also perfect on serve-receive on 36 chances, with Muhleman leading with 13 for 13.
“We played pretty well tonight and got some pretty good swings in,” said SWC head coach Donna Barton. “We had good defense by Maddie Davis and Tatum Hahn. Allie Noland and Jacqueline Noland set really well also. I thought it was a good team effort.”
If the Redsides defeat Arlington (11-12, 8-6) Thursday, they punch a ticket to the Big Sky District Tournament to be played all day Saturday at Kurtz Gym in The Dalles.
So, far, SWC is 2-1 against Arlington, one of those wins was in the Redside Tournament on Sept. 19.
