Ft. Dalles Hustlers post sweep of the Scots

Clayton Ringer and Zach Keimig started the rally with back-to-back singles.

One out later, Gordy Harris stroked an RBI single, Ross Kohl drove in a run and Bryson Caldwell capped the rally with an RBI groundout to make the score 3-0.

The Scots bounced back with two runs on the three hits and a walk off Ringer to creep to within 3-2.

That was as close as David Douglas would get, as the Hustlers added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

Harris had an RBI single to bring Payton Eaton in the sixth and Taeton Harrington rounded out the scoring with an RBI sacrifice fly.

In all, the Hustlers had eight hits, as Harris paced the barrage with a 3 for 4 effort with a run scored, two stolen bases and two RBIs.

Kohl, Caldwell, Sargent, Eaton and Keimig added hits and both Caldwell and Harrington were credited with RBIs.

Ringer lasted three innings and allowed two runs on four hits with two strikeouts and a walk for the win.

Eaton kicked in four innings of one-hit relief while striking out five.

Things were a lot closer in the nightcap, but the Hustlers had a few bullets in the chamber with Caldwell playing the role of hero on the mound and at the dish.

Caldwell broke an 8-8 tie with the eventual game-winning two-run single to help the Hustlers to a 10-8 win and a sweep.

With one out in the top of the seventh frame, the Hustlers got things started with three consecutive walks.

After a strikeout, Caldwell dug in for a chance to play hero.

The Dufur High School athlete roped a 0-1 pitch for a two-run single to centerfield to drive in two runs and move the Hustlers in front, 10-8.

Three outs away from a comeback win, Caldwell retired the first two batters he faced in the bottom of the seventh on groundouts to shortstop.

An error then brought the tying run to the plate in Robert Macias.

The duo went to work on a six-pitch at-bat, as Caldwell finally induced a game-ending groundout to second base to finish the game.

Caldwell, who hit cleanup, went 3 for 5 with a double, a run scored and five RBIs.

On the bump, the big right-hander tossed six innings of one-hit ball with a season-high eight strikeouts and a walk.

Harrington posted a 1 for 4 effort with two runs, and the trio of Harris, Sargent and Keimig notched a hit and a run each, as the Hustlers reeled off nine hits.

David Douglas scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning on two hits, a walk and two hit batters.

The Scots tacked on runs in the second and third frames to lead 6-0.

TD inched closer with two runs in the top of the fifth to make it 6-2 and they regained the lead with six runs on four hits and two walks to jump out in front, 8-6.

Caldwell had a two-run double to bring home Harrington and Eaton as the big blow in the six-run outburst.

David Douglas tied the game in the sixth with a pair of runs, but the Hustlers turned the corner in the seventh with Caldwell’s hit.

The Hustlers travel to Hermiston for a nine-inning matchup starting at 4 p.m.
