Cascade Mountain School will work with the Trout Lake School District to pilot an outdoor science course in the Trout Lake and Mt. Adams area this summer.
Cascade Mountain School is a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) focused educational program for middle and high school students grounded in ecological and community values.
It offers students the opportunity to apply scientific and mathematical concepts to real-world issues in an academically rigorous learning environment that is kinesthetic, healthy, and holistic.
This summer Cascade Mountain School is offering a two-week residential field ecology course in which students will conduct ecological research while hiking, backpacking, and camping. Students will spend time exploring the alpine meadows, lakes, and glaciers of Mt. Adams, and collaborating with local scientists on relevant ecological studies. The dates for the program are Aug. 4 to 17 and spots are still available. Students must be entering ninth through 12th grades or a recent high school graduate to attend.
The Trout Lake School board has voted to award students a full semester of high school science credit for their participation in the course. The field science course includes 75 academic hours and covers many Oregon and Washington science standards.
Students from other schools can work with their sending school to receive high school credit. One full scholarship will be awarded to a Trout Lake student to attend.
