MOUNTLAKE TERRACE, Wash. (AP) — The King County medical examiner’s office says a 19-year-old man from the north Seattle suburb of Brier has died of injuries he suffered in an Aug. 30 skateboarding accident.
The medical examiner said Daniel Ecklund died last weekend at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The Daily Herald reports that police in the suburb of Mountlake Terrace say Ecklund reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a utility trailer being towed by a truck.
Police say the truck driver is not expected to be cited.
Boy charged over bikini barista
EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — A 12-year-old boy accused of pointing a revolver at a bikini barista in Everett, Wash., threatening to shoot her and then riding off on his bike with the contents of her tip jar has been charged with first-degree robbery.
The Daily Herald says the boy has also been charged with robbery in an Aug. 28 holdup at a south Everett market.
The robbery at the Hillbilly Hotties coffee stand took place Sept. 2.
Police believe the boy borrowed the gun from a 16-year-old boy who’s being investigated in a July 23 robbery at a sandwich shop. In that case, the Arlington teen and another young man wore white surgical masks and one of them pointed a gun at an employee. The 16-year-old has been arrested.
The 12-year-old was arrested Sept. 6.
Slow hiker flown of mountain
BEND, Ore. (AP) — A Deschutes County sheriff’s officer says an 82-year-old Bend, Ore., hiker who was making what was described as an “unusually slow” descent from South Sister peak has been flown off the mountain.
Deputy Jim Whitcomb says Robert Haynes was flown to a Bend hospital Monday evening for a medical screening. He was not hospitalized.
Other hikers contacted the Forest Service on Monday after coming across Haynes and being concerned about his welfare.
The Forest Service contacted the sheriff’s search and rescue unit.
Whitcomb says the man began a solo climb Sunday and reached the 10,358-foot summit but by then it was too dark to descend. He started coming down Monday morning. Haynes has been making the climb annually for many years.
