The Dalles North Wasco County School District 21 announced two major hiring decisions last week in the hiring of Lance Masters to serve in the role of vice principal at The Dalles Middle School and Anne Evans as the new permanent principal of Chenowith Elementary School.
Evans has been serving as the interim principal during the 2012-2013 school year; filling in for Matt Ihle who took a leave of absence to pursue an international opportunity as a school administrator in Morocco and recently decided not to return to The Dalles.
After Ihle vacated his post the district interviewed three candidates described as “highly qualified” and Evans was chosen to continue the work she has been doing at Chenowith during the past year.
According to a press release from the district, “Last year, Chenowith Elementary School was identified by the state as a school in Priority Status. This status indicates a need to dramatically improve academic outcomes for students. Ms. Evans was able to prove her leadership capacity this year as she and the staff worked tenaciously to identify solutions, adapt to the new Common Core State Standards, and make big improvements in academic outcomes for students in the areas of math and reading. North Wasco County School District is looking forward to continuing success at Chenowith Elementary School.”
Masters, who will replace current TDMS Vice Prinicipal Bill Hughitt, has been active in leadership roles in the district since he joined the team in 2007. During his tenure with North Wasco he has taught Social Studies, Language Arts, been an assistant high school boys basketball coach, and most recently served as district-wide Talented and Gifted Coordinator. He has also served as president of the licensed teachers’ association, taking an active role in this year’s contract negotiations.
According to the district he has completed his administrative licensure program and gained in-district experience at all levels, recently completing work under the guidance of Theresa Peters, Dry Hollow Elementary principal and “has also taken a key role in the development of our new licensed evaluation system, been an active member of the Achievement Compact Committee and received recent training in the Sanctuary Model.”
