The Wasco County Commission approved entering into an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) to help fund the Skills Center and Housing Construction Project at Columbia Gorge Community College during its regular session Jan. 16.
The agreement between the county, city and college dedicates $3.5 million in Enterprise Zone funding to the project.
Commissioners deliberated with officials from the college on specifics of language in the document. The agreement was authorized unanimously by the commission, with the contingency that certain changes would be made to the document and allowance for non-substantive language changes as well.
Commissioner Scott Hege made a point of clarification, noting that the funds would come solely from enterprise zones funds and not the Wasco County general fund.
In other business the commission approved an Emergency Management Performance Grant of just over $48,000, and confirmed numerous new or existing appointees on various county committees. Both votes were approved unanimously.
The board also received a quarterly audit report that concluded that the county was in “good shape.”
In other business, the commission agreed to draft and sign a letter of support for the Oregon Investment Board to receive the remaining $1.9 million of funds authorized to it back in 1986; as of today the board has received $8 million of the authorized $10 million. This money allows the board to help local economies with loans, funds and other financial support to small businesses.
