Boer goat show set in Moro

The South African Boer Goat is a meat goat breed that originated in the early 1900s.

It produces lean and non-gamey tasting meet and, unbeknownst to most people, the U.S. imports more than a million pounds of the meat a year. Showing these animals has become a popular activity in the U.S. Mature bucks range in size from 200 to 300-plus pounds and does weigh more than 150 pounds.

This weekend’s event will include showing of different classes from ages 0 to 3 months up to 3 years, both bucks and does. The event will also feature futurity and specialty classes. Two different judges will be on hand, Robert McSwain from North Carolina and Chris Shaffett from

Louisiana.

5 p.m. A dinner is planned after the show Saturday night, starting at about
