An Ariel, Wash., resident is being charged in Sherman County following a 40-mile high-speed pursuit at speeds reaching higher than 150 miles per hour.
On March 18, at about 2:50 p.m., Sherman County Deputy Geremy Shull was working radar on Interstate 84 near Biggs when a 2012 KTM 1190 motorcycle passed his location doing more than 100 mph. Shull attempted to stop the motorcycle, however the bike began to accelerate and pass vehicles. Shull pursued the motorcycle at speeds topping 150 mph until taking the Philippi exit near milepost 123 on I-84 and heading back toward Biggs.
The chase occurred entirely on the interstate and Shull broke off pursuit when it became too dangerous, said Sherman County Sheriff Brad Lohrey.
The motorcycle then entered Washington.
A short time later the Klickitat County Sheriff’s Office located and detained the rider of the motorcycle at a gas station in Roosevelt. The rider, later identified as Grant Kloewer, 26, was arrested by the Klickitat County Sheriff’s Office on outstanding warrants in Washington and was given citations to appear in Sherman County Circuit Court for attempting to elude and reckless driving.
“I am very happy Kloewer was apprehended before he hurt someone or hurt himself. Kloewer’s reckless actions put the public and law enforcement in harm’s way,” Lohrey said.
