My earliest memory of the word “sanctuary” is my memory of the many times as a child when I walked up to the sanctuary of our church, along with so many others — rich and poor, locals and foreigners, old and young, conservative and progressive — to approach a place where we broke bread together.
To the editor: I write to address your recent article regarding Wasco County District Attorney Eric Nisley. I have been a practicing attorney in The Dalles for the last 36 years. I am truly saddened by this bar complaint, which is both deceptive and misleading.
Take it upon yourself to venture down a path that can lead to a brighter future in the year ahead. Allow your talent to speak for you, and base your choices on what you enjoy doing most. Follow your heart and express your desires.
I appreciate State Sen. Rick Metsger's willingness to come to Hood River County last week to ask us how the legislature should handle an enormous shortfall in the state's budget. I don't envy Senator Metsger's task of deciding which important program will be cut. A number of others from Cascade Locks joined me in attending the meeting to express our concern that funding for K through 12 education should be sacred during the special session. We don't want to see any more cuts in education.
