The Dalles Little League has enjoyed a solid hold on District 5 Tournament dominance over the past few years and fielded three all-star teams this year that have visions of continuing that successful trend. Last weekend at Kramer Field, league commissioner Nickie Hage announced the 12U, 11U and 10U squads and their coaches, and those groups will be on full display in front of their home crowd for a week of pool play and bracket contests.
In Monday’s 12-5 victory over Del Norte, William Booth went 4 for 4 with four runs scored and four RBIs, Avery Schwartz added three hits, was hit by a pitch, scored a run and drove in another, and Sterling Coburn was 1 for 2 with a triple, two walks, a run scored and an RBI.
Regardless of outcome, The Dalles’ 10U Little League All Star head coach Michael Cates was proud with how far his team had come over the past month in preparation for the District 5 Tournament.
The Dalles 10U All Star head coach Michael Cates fields a roster of seven 10-year olds and six nine-year olds for the start of District 5 Little League play.
Papa Murphy’s Pizza pitcher Kade Wilson dealt with nagging injuries all spring. Late Friday night, he battled a high fever, but recovered just enough to take the mound in a Majors championship game against Riley Brock, Mason Caldwell, Braden Schwartz and a hard-hitting Nelson Tires squad.
PRINEVILLE – Bend North has been a thorn in the side of The Dalles Little League. That 10U group eliminated them from postseason play in 2015, and earlier in tournament action, posted a 16-4 mercy-rule win. Needing to win two games in order to keep its season alive, TD’s 10U All Star team scored mercy-ruled wins of 16-3 and 12-2 Saturday over Bend North to capture a District 5 Championship in games played at Parr Lumber Field in Prineville.
