Hood River County Sheriff’s Department ordered that the Roy Webster Cross-Channel Swim be cancelled due to high winds. The swim was cancelled for a second year in a row; in 2017, the event was called off because of the Eagle Creek fire.
Search crews called it a night Saturday after unsuccessfully seeking a missing paddle boarder, Andres Pombo, 20, of Miami, Florida, who vanished on the Columbia River Friday afternoon. Early evidence suggests Pombo did not survive.
ONTARIO, Ore. – Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife technicians discovered Zebra mussels on a boat at the Ontario boat inspection station Friday. The boat being hauled from Lake Erie in Ohio is the first vessel of the 2015 inspection season found to be infested with the invasive mussels.

The Oregon State Marine Board and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife remind operators of paddlecraft (kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, sailboats, etc.) that it’s time to buy an aquatic invasive species prevention permit for 2013. Permits are required for paddlecraft and other non-motorized vessels 10 feet long and longer for both residents and nonresidents. Permits are transferable between boats, but each boat on the water needs to carry a permit.
