Letter to the Editor: Walden fails

To the editor:

In late February the U.S. House passed two pieces of gun safety legislation. Rep. Walden voted NO on both bills.

HR 8—which is regarded by some as the most significant piece of gun legislation voted on in the House in two decades—expands background checks to include private sales such as on the Internet, thereby increasing the probability that guns will stay out of the hands of people who should not have them.

To the editor: The Hammond pardon was secured by a great many people. It was like a huge jigsaw puzzle with many different pieces which all had to go together at the right time to make it happen. Everyone was working to correct and make right a grave injustice. Congressman Walden was a big piece of the puzzle to help secure the presidential pardon for Dwight and Stephen Hammond of Harney County.
