Time has flown by for senior athletes Jacob Justesen, Treve Martin and Allie Noland. From the early days of running around in gyms or concrete slabs on the playground, the game of basketball provided each of them a level of joy, frustration and life lessons that is unmatched. Justesen, Martin and Noland were recently voted on as 2017-2018 1A Oregon Basketball Coaches Association All-State athletes for their solid winter seasons.

MORO – Back in 1989, Doug Martin and Joe Justesen claimed state championships in football and basketball. Nearly 30 years later, their sons, Treve Martin and Jacob Justesen, are looking to lock down a third consecutive 1A state boys’ basketball championship. “Just like anything, going back to Baker is a surreal feeling,” Treve said.

The Sherman Huskies were cruising through their league schedule, taking down the opposition with relative ease, with a 16-game winning streak. Tuesday in Toppenish, Wash., that run ended abruptly, as Yakama Tribal erased a 22-12 first-quarter deficit by outscoring Sherman by a 54-29 margin over the final 24 minutes to score a 66-51 triumph.

MORO – As the wins pile up and the Sherman Huskies continue to coast through their Big Sky Conference schedule, head coach Gary Lewis knows that his group is inching closer to its peak level. The No. 2-ranked Huskies won their ninth straight Big Sky Conference game, 13th overall, in a 71-26 blowout victory over South Wasco County Saturday in Moro.

MORO – Sherman head coach Gary Lewis had been patiently waiting for a scoring performance like Treve Martin put on Tuesday night against Yakama Tribal. Martin scored a season-high 29 points, including 18 in the second half, to give the No. 2-ranked Huskies the scoring boost needed for a 74-57 triumph Tuesday in Moro.

Another week, another blowout and another top-flight passing display by Sherman’s Jacob Justesen. The senior quarterback completed 8 of 16 passes for 265 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Sherman Huskies to a 48-6 drubbing of Touchet, Wash., Friday in a non-league football contest.
