A rotary screw trap for fisheries research is being temporarily installed again this year on the lower White Salmon River. The fish trap will be used by the U.S. Geological Survey and Mid-Columbia Fisheries Enhancement Group to monitor migrant juvenile salmon and steelhead. The work is part of a broader assessment of fish recolonization of the White Salmon River after the removal of Condit Dam.
SALEM — Wolf OR48, a Shamrock Pack adult male, died on Feb. 26 on private land in northeast Oregon after an unintentional take by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Wildlife Services. The wolf died after encountering an M-44 device, a spring-activated device containing cyanide powder.
A house fire in The Dalles Friday morning was soon followed by a brush fire in the afternoon. Bryan Hanson got home just in time Friday morning or else the fire that did most of its damage in the laundry room could have been much worse. After running errands downtown, Hanson said he heard the smoke alarm before he even pulled into his house on 2110 East 14th Street in The Dalles.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) — Biologists trying to put a new GPS tracking collar on Oregon's famous wandering wolf, OR-7, could be camping out in the southern Oregon Cascades for weeks before they are successful.
SALEM, Ore.—ODFW has trapped and euthanized a second problem cougar adjacent to Hendricks City Park in Eugene. A trap remains set for a third cougar believed to still be in the area.
