After three years as athletic director at Hood River Valley High School, Tom Ames will be stepping down from that role starting with the 2018-19 high school sports season.

The 24-second shot clock has been a staple of the National Basketball Association (NBA) since 1954, when it was first used in a game in Syracuse, N.Y., to ameliorate “stall ball” tactics that were slowing down the game and making it less enjoyable for fans. The National College Athletic Association (NCAA) introduced a 45-second clock in the mid-1980s and has reduced time periodically over the years — most recently a couple years ago when the NCAA bumped it down to 30 seconds.

Just in time for the prep winter sports season that starts next week, the Hood River Valley High School athletics department has rolled out a new website that administrators hope will help players, coaches, parents, and fans stay connected and updated throughout the season.

Hood River County School District announced three new hires Friday, all education leaders from in town. The schools will see a new athletic director at Hood River Valley High School, a new principal at Mid Valley Elementary School and a new district transportation supervisor.
