At the start of this school year, there was some concern about the upcoming spring sports season, regarding practices and home games for multiple spring sports at Hood River Valley High School as outdoor facilities are renovated.

The 24-second shot clock has been a staple of the National Basketball Association (NBA) since 1954, when it was first used in a game in Syracuse, N.Y., to ameliorate “stall ball” tactics that were slowing down the game and making it less enjoyable for fans. The National College Athletic Association (NCAA) introduced a 45-second clock in the mid-1980s and has reduced time periodically over the years — most recently a couple years ago when the NCAA bumped it down to 30 seconds.

Capping off a season where he was named Columbia River Conference Coach of the Year and 5A Coach of the Year, HRV boys soccer Coach Jaime Rivera has now been recognized with an award from a national organization for his coaching efforts.

Just in time for the prep winter sports season that starts next week, the Hood River Valley High School athletics department has rolled out a new website that administrators hope will help players, coaches, parents, and fans stay connected and updated throughout the season.
