Maddie Troutt broke a 9-all tie with a two-out RBI single to score Emma Smith as part of a four-run bottom of the sixth inning, and Kilee Hoylman escaped a late rally attempt with a strikeout and a fly out with the tying run at third base in The Dalles’ 10-9 second-game comeback victory over Hood River Valley in IMC softball action Friday from 16th Street Ballpark. Early on, it appeared as though The Dalles softball team was headed towards a blowout home victory over No. 5 Pendleton. Third-ranked TD led 10-2 through three innings and 11-4 after five, but the Lady Bucks rallied for six runs on six hits in the top of the sixth to get to within 11-10, the Hawks answered with a single run in the bottom half and Kilee Hoylman escaped a jam in the seventh frame to preserve the 12-11 win in IMC softball action Tuesday from 16th Street Ballpark.
After losing 8-0 in Friday’s opening game, The Dalles softball team needed a boost from Kilee Hoylman. The junior hurler answered with a gritty effort against the state’s No. 1-ranked softball squad, as she allowed one unearned run and pitched a complete-game, four-hitter with one walk and one strikeout in the Lady Riverhawks’ 2-1 upset of the Ridgeview Ravens Friday in an Intermountain Conference showdown in Redmond.
There’s no better cure for a team than winning, especially in crucial league matchups. Ever since coming back from Arizona, the No. 19-ranked Riverhawks have rattled off four consecutive wins, including Intermountain Conference baseball sweeps of 12-9 and 15-5 over No. 3 Redmond Friday at Bob Williams Field.
There is a new energy across the board for The Dalles softball team. Katherine Kramer is back as head coach and she has a fired up group that is looking to get back on track, following two seasons where the varsity team posted an 11-39-1 record under two different coaches.
