In his first year coaching, Sergio Lopez-Galvan wasn’t sure what to expect heading into districts. Devam Patel and Ethan Martin notched a state doubles qualification with fourth place and The Dalles had 19 points to grab third at the Intermountain Conference boys tennis tournament in Redmond.
Coming off a 7-1 loss last week at Redmond, The Dalles boys tennis team played short-handed this past Tuesday, but still scored a 5-0 win at home over Pendleton with every match decided by straight sets.
Over the past three matches, The Dalles boys tennis team has gone 2-1 with wins over Ridgeview and Hood River Valley and a 7-1 loss on the road against Redmond in Tuesday’s varsity contest.
While Hood River Valley and The Dalles worked through wind and rain to a 4-4 deadlock, due to set win totals, the host Eagles racked up a 69-57 game difference for their league triumph in boys varsity action Tuesday at Hood River.
Playing in their league opener Thursday, The Dalles boys tennis team suffered a 7-1 loss to Redmond in 5A action at The Dalles High School. Having a good streak to begin the spring campaign, TD head coach Sergio Lopez-Galvan is hoping his team can shake off the loss and start another streak.
In their home opener on March 21, The Dalles Riverhawks swept four doubles matches in a 6-2 victory over Roosevelt in a varsity boys tennis contest held at The Dalles High School.
With only one day of outside practice, The Dalles boys tennis team won three matches each in singles and doubles play to pull off a 6-2 victory on the road in Portland Thursday at Parkrose High School.
