History was made Friday at Bob Williams Field, as The Dalles pitcher Michael Armstrong tossed a perfect game against Ridgeview. The junior right-hander stymied the Ravens to the tune of six strikeouts on 60 pitches and got some defensive help, as Conner Baughn made all the right calls at catcher, Dominic Smith made two acrobatic plays at third base and Dalles Seufalemua added some scoops at first to keep Ridgeview off the board in a 16-0 mercy-ruled victory.
Tuesday’s one-run loss was frustrating for The Dalles baseball team. The Riverhawks had their 5-0 lead through five and a half innings erased, as Crook County rallied for two runs in the sixth and four in the bottom of the seventh inning, capped by a walk-off, two-out, bases-loaded double in a 6-5 final in Intermountain Conference play from Prineville.
There’s no better cure for a team than winning, especially in crucial league matchups. Ever since coming back from Arizona, the No. 19-ranked Riverhawks have rattled off four consecutive wins, including Intermountain Conference baseball sweeps of 12-9 and 15-5 over No. 3 Redmond Friday at Bob Williams Field.
Mac Abbas homered and later scored the eventual game-winning run, Ben Nelson retired the last six batters he faced and Michael Armstrong threw out a runner at home in The Dalles’ 5-4 victory against 6A Mountain View Tuesday in Bend.
Blessed with good weather at the Pride classic in Arizona, The Dalles baseball team posted a 1-3 record, with the lone win coming in dramatic fashion last Tuesday.
Facing three 6A schools and an undefeated 5A Putnam through four non-league games, The Dalles baseball has been very competitive with three of those losses by two runs or fewer, two by one run.
From the first game to the second, The Dalles baseball coach Steve Sugg noticed a big difference.
TD committed six first-game errors and stranded seven runners on base in a 5-1 loss last Thursday and then bounced back with seven errorless innings, as they squandered a 5-3 lead through five and a half innings of a 6-5 loss to 6A Gresham Friday.
In Thursday’s season-opener, TD got hits from six different players and left seven runners on base, four in scoring position, in what was a 5-1 loss to Putnam.
