Through her playing career, Dufur High School graduate Sydney Reed has played under the bright lights, handling pressure with a sense of calm. This past Saturday, Reed donned her Ranger volleyball uniform once again for play in the fourth annual Oregon Athletic Coaches Association all-star volleyball series Saturday at Quinn Coliseum in La Grande.
In a crowded gymnasium Wednesday night in Dufur, school administrators, teachers, coaches, community members, family and friends shared a lasting moment with students and athletes at the Dufur High School year-end ceremony.
Under solid conditions atop the Meadows Course, ski team members from The Dalles, Dufur and South Wasco County had six top-15 finishes in a Mount Hood Ski League slalom race Saturday.
Usually at this time of year, senior Sydney Reed is in the middle of her basketball season from her point guard position for the Dufur High School program. Instead of dribbling, passing and shooting 3-pointers, Reed is equipped with skis, a helmet and goggles at the start of 2017.
Over the years, many of the top players in the state have donned the Dufur Ranger colors, earning countless league and state honors, along with league crowns and state championships. Sydney Reed can now add her name to that esteemed group of former Dufur greats.
Playing an underdog role last season, the Dufur Rangers won six games and finished one victory short of earning a trip to the Big Sky District Tournament.
