DUFUR – It was quite the turnaround season for the Dufur baseball team.

After posting two wins and a ninth-place league finish, the young Rangers bolstered their roster with eight freshmen and won 11 games, securing a second-place league outcome and a state berth under head coach C.S. Little.

Maddie Troutt broke a 9-all tie with a two-out RBI single to score Emma Smith as part of a four-run bottom of the sixth inning, and Kilee Hoylman escaped a late rally attempt with a strikeout and a fly out with the tying run at third base in The Dalles’ 10-9 second-game comeback victory over Hood River Valley in IMC softball action Friday from 16th Street Ballpark. Early on, it appeared as though The Dalles softball team was headed towards a blowout home victory over No. 5 Pendleton. Third-ranked TD led 10-2 through three innings and 11-4 after five, but the Lady Bucks rallied for six runs on six hits in the top of the sixth to get to within 11-10, the Hawks answered with a single run in the bottom half and Kilee Hoylman escaped a jam in the seventh frame to preserve the 12-11 win in IMC softball action Tuesday from 16th Street Ballpark.

The Dufur Rangers ended their four-game losing streak in a lopsided manner Tuesday by rapping out a 20-hit effort to dispatch Stanfield 15-3 in five innings.

The Dalles softball team dominated Washougal, 11-0, and salvaged a home doubleheader split with 6A Bend Friday, taking a 3-0 win and a 19-10 loss at 16th Street Ballpark.

Isaac Anthony dazzled in his first-ever varsity start on the mound. The freshman southpaw held Culver scoreless on two hits, four walks and nine strikeouts across five innings. Once he exited the game, Culver’s bats came alive and Bulldog reliever Tadd Anderson retired 12 in a row over the final four frames to help his team storm back from an early 7-0 deficit for a 10-7 comeback in extra innings Wednesday at Kramer Field in The Dalles.

Columbia Gorge Hustlers head coach Steve Sugg put his ‘A’ baseball team through a meat grinder of a schedule, with games in Washington, on the coast and everywhere else. This summer, the Hustlers racked up a 29-17 overall record, a Zone 2 championship and a 1-2 finish at the recently-completed American Legion State Tournament in North Bend.
