Letter to the Editor: Thank you Walden

To the editor: We may not be the one’s yelling, but we are the ones who are thankful for all the work Greg Walden is doing for us. Most recently he has worked to fix some of the forest management at Crooked River Ranch, passed legislation to end the opioid crisis, worked to expand rural broadband, and obtained a pardon for Dwight and Steven Hammond — and all of this has happened in just a little over a month.

Hammonds receive pardon

U.S. Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore., has been granted his request to have Harney County rancher Dwight Hammond Jr., and his son, Steven, pardoned by President Donald Trump. “Today is a win for justice and an acknowledgement of our unique way of life in the high desert, rural West,” said Walden on Tuesday morning when news broke that President Donald Trump had granted full pardons to the Hammonds.

‘Ranchers’ Lives Matter’ rally

A group of Wasco County residents joined the national “Ranchers’ Lives Matter” movement Saturday by holding a rally at a local freeway overpass to focus attention on issues brought to light by the recent standoff in Burns.
