The Cascade Singers community choir is beginning its fall season. The Singers meet under the direction of Miles Thoming-Gale Sundays from 7 to 8:45 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church (10th and Union Streets) in The Dalles. One-hour work sessions also happen Thursdays at 7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church (305 E 11th St.) in The Dalles.

As the crowd gathered for the 11th annual St. Patrick’s Day River Trail run/walk, many of the runners knew the competition was going to be tough. Former high school standouts, collegiate athletes and state champions such as Randall Jones, Greg Glesener, Luke Conklin and Ben Iremonger, to name a few, were part of the cast of 107 characters gathered at Lewis and Clark Park last Saturday, ready to try their best to claim top status.

Local children with special needs will soon have the opportunity to spend some of the summer learning social, sensory-processing and motor skills—with horses. Rise & Shine, a therapeutic riding program at Camp Morrow, is for children between 4 and 12 with special needs, particularly those on the autism spectrum or with sensory-processing challenges.

COATS NEEDED: As local temperatures have dropped, many school children in the North Wasco County School District are without winter coats to keep them warm. A coat drive is under way to collect as many coats as possible for school children of all ages.
