Having home field advantage and the momentum of a last week’s 6-1 upset over The Dalles-Wahtonka in its favor, the No. 11-ranked Hood River Valley High School varsity baseball team came into Friday’s play-in contest vs. North Eugene with confidence and poise. The team walked away disappointed, however, as the No. 22-ranked Highlanders pulled off a 2-0 upset to end the Eagles’ season and advance to the Oregon 5A state championship tournament.

The Hood River Valley Eagles baseball team utilized error free defense, strong pitching and an explosive offense to get a big win in its final nonleague contest. Ryan Colesar’s game-winning RBI single helped propel the Eagles to a 9-8 victory over the Corvallis Spartans Thursday at Hood River Valley High.

With blue skies and sun-softened snow, the Hood River Valley High School ski team competed in spring-like conditions over the weekend at Ski Bowl. The slalom event brought teams from the Mt. Hood Ski League for the third race of the season.

In the second race of the season, Hood River Valley High School ski team finished first overall and nabbed fastest times in both boys and girls fields Saturday at Mt. Hood Meadows. The HRV girls dominated their field with a blowout win and five racers finishing in the top 10 in the slalom event on MHM’s Stadium run. Boys results were much closer, with HRV edging The Dalles and Sandy high schools by a few close points for the win.

Hood River Valley High School baseball players Kyle Beam, Ryan Colesar and Ty Bofferding traveled to Centralia, Wash., last week to play in the elite Baseball Northwest Championships tournament. The invitation-only event is aimed at providing top young players from Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming exposure to college coaches and scouts.
