US2020 announces 15 finalists, including the Columbia Gorge STEM Hub in The Dalles, for the STEM Coalition Challenge, a competition for communities across the country to develop cross-sector partnerships to bring quality hands-on STEM mentoring and maker-centered learning to underrepresented students.

Emma Mullins and Ezekiel Stelzer were awarded Most Outstanding as runners, and the trio of Tressa Wood, Ethan Shubert and David Wring won Most Improved. Mullins and Stelzer won first-team All-Columbia River Conference honors, and Wood, John Miller, Jony Nelson and Luke McLean had their names called for the second team.
The school district recently approved union contracts with its teachers and non-teaching staff, and a new element in both contracts is a monthly labor-management meeting to keep lines of communication open. The District 21 Education Association represents 176 teachers, said Randy Anderson, chief financial officer of North Wasco County School District 21 and its chief union negotiator.
To the editor: I would like to take this opportunity to thank sports writer Ray Rodriguez and The Chronicle for their excellent coverage of The Dalles Wahtonka’s cross country 2013 season. However, I believe that it is important to give credit where credit is due. Although I have the title of head cross country coach, there are three coaches involved and we work together as a team to help each runner achieve their personal goals.
