The Spudder Classic track and field meet on Friday in Ridgefield wasn’t exactly the sub-district tune-up many were expecting, but a few distinguishable performances mixed in among sometimes nasty weather may indicate the Columbia High girls team is ready to make a season-ending trophy run.

Bruin girls sweep relays, win sub-district meet

Columbia High track and field Coach Jim Anderson made two major decisions before and during Friday’s 2021 Trico League Sub-District Championship meet.

The second one was easy — he simply kept his mouth shut. The first decision arguably took more fortitude — he had to defer to the collective wisdom of four teenage boys. The result was golden in both cases.

With only one day of outside practice, The Dalles boys tennis team won three matches each in singles and doubles play to pull off a 6-2 victory on the road in Portland Thursday at Parkrose High School.
