Sherman County Sheriff Brad Lohrey, the overseeing sheriff for the regional jail, is a planner. He likes to anticipate what might be needed 5 to 10 years from now. At his behest, the Northern Oregon Regional Corrections Facility (NORCOR) board created a dedicated reserve fund Feb. 28 that would be used as a savings account for things like a new roof, new cameras and new heat pumps.
The port will hold off on investing in improvements to the current bridge over the next couple years as it focuses on progressing the bridge replacement project, but delaying those capital improvements could cause some concerns.
Hood River County has scheduled two workshops on the county’s budget issues: One in the community building of the County Fairgrounds in Odell on Oct. 24, and a second in the Hood River Valley Adult Center on Nov. 8. The intent of these workshops is to educate the public on the complicated budget issue, answer questions and give residents a chance to provide input on potential solutions.
It’s settled. The White Salmon City Council on Jan. 2 affirmed its decision to privatize garbage collection in the city limits by authorizing a letter to the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (WUTC) that asks the state agency to assign a certificated vendor to take over the city’s service area.
