MORO – At the start of the 2016-2017 basketball season, Reese Blake felt queasy, with some chest pain and dizziness, unsure what was going on. This winter on the hardwood, the Sherman senior is a key piece to a basketball squad that captured its third district crown and is vying for its third consecutive state championship.
MORO – In what was a showdown between two of the best teams in the Big Sky Conference, No. 12-ranked Condon-Wheeler was no match for the No. 2 Sherman Huskies.
The No. 1-ranked Sherman Huskies kept their hot start to the season going with a 59-42 victory versus Hosanna Christian Friday in the opening round of the Holiday Hoops Classic in Klamath Falls.
MORO – For a football team that wound up with a 5-4 record, a No. 10 ranking, second place in league and a state-playoff berth, the Sherman Huskies had nine players pick up Big Sky Conference awards, four on both sides of the ball, and Jacob Justesen was voted on as the league’s Offensive Player of the Year.
As a player, Sherman senior quarterback Jacob Justesen said it means the world to be working on the fourth playoff run in the last four years. Although this team has had its ups and downs, they are just starting to hit their stride. Justesen completed 5 of 8 passes for 147 yards and three touchdowns, and he added 90 yards on the ground with a rushing score as the No. 10-ranked Sherman Huskies punched a state ticket following a 68-14 win over the No. 19 Perrydale Pirates Friday night in Perrydale.
Senior quarterback Jacob Justesen tossed a career-high five touchdowns and rushed for two scores to spearhead a 54-14 Sherman triumph over Pilot Rock Friday in a 1A football contest played in Moro.
MORO – Pride was on the line when the Sherman Huskies hosted their home opener Saturday against Entiat, Wash. Reese Blake and Treve Martin combined for 189 yards rushing and three scores, and the defense forced three turnovers and held the Tigers to 162 total yards in a 52-0 shutout win in Moro.
Reese Blake and Desiree Winslow racked up a win apiece, and the rest of the Sherman track and field team rallied for 12 other top-3 performances Saturday at the Madras Invitational.
The Sherman Huskies participated in the 26-team Buck Track Classic Thursday in Pendleton and turned in nine top-10 outputs, led by senior champion Isaiah Coles, who had two second-place finishes in the long and triple jump.
MORO – Everything fell into place for the Sherman Huskies during their state championship run last season.
