As district play quickly approaches, The Dalles girls tennis team is on a major roll. Over their last five matches, the Riverhawks are 4-1 with their only loss coming on April 20 versus Pendleton, where the contest ended deadlocked at 4-4, but the Bucks scored the 11-10 win based on total sets.

The Dalles girls tennis team posted straight-set wins in all four singles matches, and the No. 2 doubles team of Karla Najera and Pearl Guzman added a three-set win to give the Lady Riverhawks a 5-4 victory against Parkrose in Thursday’s varsity opener in Portland.

Back on April 4, The Dalles girls’ tennis team could only muster 37 set points in an 8-0 home loss to Hermiston. Thursday, Arlette Santillan claimed a singles victory, and the No. 3 doubles tandem of Karla Najera and Pearl Guzman added a straight sets triumph, as the Lady Riverhawks racked up 44 set wins in a 6-2 loss at Hermiston High School.

Earlier in the week, The Dalles hosted Hood River Valley in a league match and lost 7-1, with Arlette Santillan taking the team’s lone win Tuesday at The Dalles High School. Although the score appeared lopsided, the Riverhawks had three matches decided by third-set tiebreakers and two others dropped by an average margin of 2.25 points, both in straight sets.
