Neticia Fanene was a three-sport The Dalles High athlete who went on to set volleyball records at the University of Oregon. Steve Sugg was a standout athlete and later head coach of six The Dalles state championship baseball teams.

With a young roster of five underclassmen, four juniors and two seniors, The Dalles volleyball team increased its win total from four to six, won more sets, jumping from 20 in 2016 to 25 this season, and ended up ranked 24th in the 5A classification, a jump from No. 27 in 2016.

MILWAUKIE – In an evenly-matched state play-in contest against No. 20-ranked Rex-Putnam, The Dalles volleyball team won the opening set by a 25-23 score, but the Kingsmen then ended up rebounding to take the final three sets by margins of 25-17, 25-18, 25-22 in a 5A contest played in Milwaukie.

The Dalles volleyball team fired at will against Pendleton, jumping ahead 1-0 in the match after a 25-19 win. Over the next three sets, however, the No. 11-ranked Lady Buckaroos were dialed in to the tune of 25-15, 25-19 and 25-19 scores to pull off the four-set victory Thursday in Columbia River Conference action in Pendleton.

With a chance to pull off the season sweep against Hermiston, The Dalles volleyball team led 2-1 in the match, but could not hold on, losing the next two sets in a five-set loss Tuesday in Hermiston. TD remains one game ahead of Hermiston for the third and final playoff slot.
