Letter to the Editor: Not normal times

To the editor: Had John F Kennedy written his Profiles in Courage in our time, which contemporary senator would he include? On Tuesday I had an answer: Jeff Flake, the Republican senator from Arizona. I don’t say that lightly. Flake’s politics are not my politics. His political beliefs have left me cold and others invoke passionate opposition. But these are not normal times.

Local vigil held against racism

Some 70 people attended a vigil Sunday evening on the Wasco County Courthouse steps in reaction to violence at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Va., that left a woman dead. Event organizer Dr. Mimi McDonell was overwhelmed by the response to the event, which she publicized earlier that day through social media.

Letter to the Editor: Domestic terror issue

To the editor: This Memorial Day, in addition to our fallen war heroes, many of us paid special tribute to three brave men on Portland MAX. Last Friday two of them were brutally murdered, and one seriously wounded, as they attempted to stop a hate crime in progress.
