Historic photos and family stories featuring a nearby Japanese farming settlement in the early 20th century will be featured Saturday, March 9. The rescheduled Regional History Forum program takes place at the Original Wasco County Courthouse, 410 W. 2nd Place, The Dalles.Â
The legal back and forth over the proposed four-mile extension of a railroad siding at Mosier continues. On March 8, U.S. District Court Judge Ann Aiken dismissed a lawsuit filed by Union Pacific Railroad in January because the railroad failed to include three Indian treaty tribes as defendants in the case.
Union Pacific Railroad plans to build a second set of tracks east and west of Mosier, boosting the number of trains rolling through the Columbia River Gorge by five to seven per day, the railroad estimates.
Maintaining regional watersheds remains a critical factor when it comes to supporting Wasco County infrastructure, particularly in Mosier’s watershed. That’s according to District Watershed Coordinator Anna Buckley, who told the Board of Commissioners March 19 about some of the biggest problems that currently inhibit the area watersheds’ efficiency and what the councils are doing to address those issues.
