A Mid-Columbia Fire & Rescue crew monitors a single-story shop at 3518 West Second Street for residual fire after extinguishing flames. The blaze was reported about 9:45 a.m.

Chenowith Elementary School students were evacuated Friday late morning to the nearby Wahtonka Campus gym after smoke was detected in a classroom. At the same time, crews were responding to a fire on West 11th Street and Dallesport Fire Department was dispatched to assist in The Dalles.
