20 Years Ago-1993 A fund-raising drive to raise $142,664 help fund athletics and activities in The Dalles School District was officially launched on Monday, but that drive began with $55,025 already pledged. Those pledges are from employees and physicians at Mid Columbia Medical Center, MCMC President Mark Scott, who is serving as a spokesman for The Dalles School District no. 12 Activities Foundation, said that solicitors will begin approaching others in the community within a few days. The total cost of funding activities and athletics at the high school and middle school is $384,445, including transportation. Scott said each business in town should think of the long term viability of its business as it relates to having an excellent school district with broad-based academics, activities and sports. He said it would be devastating to every business in the community of programs at D-12 schools continue to be downsized. He said families would not stay in a district where these programs are not offered.
