Just because Chase Snodgrass and Mark Felderman are not on the roster, The Dalles boys’ golf team should not be an afterthought when it comes to challenging for a 5A state championship.
Without the bells and whistles of most golf programs across the state, The Dalles boys’ golf team paved the way for success in 2017 with grit, passion, skill and motivation as their calling card. Chase Snodgrass finished third overall, Tyler Vassar was tied for ninth and Mark Felderman ended up tied for 15th to help lead the Riverhawks to second place and their best finish in program history at the 5A OSAA/U.S. Bank/Les Schwab Tires State Golf Championships in Banks.
From the start of the season, The Dalles seniors Chase Snodgrass and Mark Felderman were dead-set on making a return trip to state in golf. Through two days of playing under harsh conditions, the two veterans will realize their dreams and aspirations.
While Summit remains the odds-on favorite to claim a 5A state championship, The Dalles boys’ golf team appears to be playing at an elite level at the right time of year.
HOOD RIVER – Even with howling winds wreaking havoc on several golfers, Tyler Vassar carded a season-best 77 for medalist honors, and senior teammates Mark Felderman and Chase Snodgrass wound up tied for second place to give The Dalles boys' golf a team score of 325 for its fourth consecutive team title at the Hood River Invitational Monday at Indian Creek Golf Course.
With Chase Snodgrass’ 75 leading the charge, Tyler Vassar and Aidan Telles shooting 82s and Mark Felderman ending up with an 84, The Dalles scratched across a 323 to win its third consecutive boys’ golf tournament title at the Wildhorse Invitational played in Pendleton Monday.
Chase Snodgrass chalked up his second straight medalist award in a two-hole playoff and his teammates Mark Felderman and Tyler Vassar each finished in the high 70s in the Riverhawks’ six-stroke victory Thursday at Big River Golf Course in Umatilla.

It has been a long time coming for The Dalles boys’ golf team. The seven-year state drought is now over. Chase Snodgrass placed sixth overall, Tyler Vassar and Mark Felderman combined for an average of 165 on the scorecards, and the Riverhawks had a two-day tally of 656 to grab fifth-place honors at the 5A Special District 2 Golf Tournament ending Saturday at Eagle Crest Golf Course in Redmond.
The Dalles boys’ golf team had a 327 to place fifth overall in regional tournament action at Eagle Crest Golf Course in Redmond. Chase Snodgrass had a 75, Tyler Vassar shot an 80 and Mark Felderman was good for an 86. Jacob Ford carded an 87 and Darsh Patel went for a 96. Second-day play was Saturday, and the top five teams go to state.
