To the editor: Our 12-year-old daughter has a benign bone tumor (osteochondroma) that most likely will never turn malignant, but the constant required monitoring of it is enough to remind us that the direction of her life could change any day. When things are going well, it’s easy for us to forget that life-altering events can even happen at all.
