MAUPIN – All-state middle blocker Jada Myers looks around the gymnasium and sees a lot of familiar faces and several new ones. Although the landscape is much different than a year ago, the senior is not making any excuses — she is even more motivated to help the South Wasco County Redsides win a championship.
Things could not be better for No. 1-ranked South Wasco County. In their 4-0 start, the Redsides are averaging nearly 51 points a contest and using a variety of weapons a nightly basis to turn the tide in games. Saturday against Powers, Abby Birman scored 15 of her season-high 19 points in the second and third quarters, as the Redsides finished the final three quarters of play on a 42-15 run to capture a lopsided 51-19 triumph Saturday at the Pacific Girls’ Basketball Tournament held in Port Orford.
The South Wasco County Redsides moved up to No. 2 in the 1A rankings and kept their undefeated record intact following a 55-31 rout of Pacific Friday in opening-day girls’ hoops action at the Pacific Tournament in Port Orford.
MAUPIN – When the South Wasco County Redsides had a chance to land the knockout blow on North Clackamas Christian, they did not let up. They went in for the kill. The No. 8-ranked Redsides had all aspects of the game working like a well-oiled machine with the serves, passes and hits all delivering the necessary blows for a 25-10 win and the match in Friday’s 1A state sub-round matchup played in Maupin.
No. 9-ranked South Wasco County won its fourth consecutive non-tournament match in three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-11 and 25-19 over Condon-Wheeler Thursday in a Big Sky Conference volleyball match played in Condon.
MAUPIN – Hoisting trophies is a regular thing in Maupin these days. No. 8-ranked South Wasco County went 4-0 and captured their second straight tournament title at the Redside Invitational held Saturday in Maupin.
The South Wasco County Redsides served at a 93-percent clip and connected on 76 of 88 swings for 36 kills to secure a four-set win over the Sherman Huskies Tuesday in Big Sky Conference volleyball action in Maupin.
In six matches at the Riverside Volleyball Tournament, the No. 11-ranked South Wasco County Redsides lost one set to capture first place honors in a daylong event Saturday in Boardman.
Saturday in Damascus, the South Wasco County Redsides played in a volleyball double dual against No.1-ranked Perrydale and No. 19 Damascus Christian, and salvaged a split in those two matches with the win coming in sweep fashion over Damascus.
