SILVERTON – Down 37-12 at the half, The Dalles girls basketball team amped up the defensive tenacity and limited Silverton to six second-half field goals by only two different players, but could not get enough shots to fall to log a major threat as they worked a 20-16 second-half run in a season-ending 53-32 loss to the top-ranked Foxes in 5A state sub-round action Friday in Silverton.

The Dalles girls basketball players Kilee Hoylman, Rainie Codding, Lauryn Belanger, Jenna Miller, Grace Schatz, Mercy I’aulualo, Pearl Guzman, Dalia Mondragon and foreign exchange student, Esther Ortiz, were showered with flowers, candy and balloons Tuesday night in an emotional pregame ceremony before action against Hood River Valley at Kurtz Gym.

A flat start hurt The Dalles and surging Redmond took full advantage with a 21-9 lead through one quarter and a 54-27 advantage entering the fourth quarter in what was a 65-45 league victory Friday at Kurtz Gym.

Redmond’s win gives them sole possession of first place in the Intermountain Conference (2-0), while TD drops into a second-place tie with Pendleton, Crook County and Hood River Valley.

Maddie Troutt broke a 9-all tie with a two-out RBI single to score Emma Smith as part of a four-run bottom of the sixth inning, and Kilee Hoylman escaped a late rally attempt with a strikeout and a fly out with the tying run at third base in The Dalles’ 10-9 second-game comeback victory over Hood River Valley in IMC softball action Friday from 16th Street Ballpark. Early on, it appeared as though The Dalles softball team was headed towards a blowout home victory over No. 5 Pendleton. Third-ranked TD led 10-2 through three innings and 11-4 after five, but the Lady Bucks rallied for six runs on six hits in the top of the sixth to get to within 11-10, the Hawks answered with a single run in the bottom half and Kilee Hoylman escaped a jam in the seventh frame to preserve the 12-11 win in IMC softball action Tuesday from 16th Street Ballpark.

After losing 8-0 in Friday’s opening game, The Dalles softball team needed a boost from Kilee Hoylman. The junior hurler answered with a gritty effort against the state’s No. 1-ranked softball squad, as she allowed one unearned run and pitched a complete-game, four-hitter with one walk and one strikeout in the Lady Riverhawks’ 2-1 upset of the Ridgeview Ravens Friday in an Intermountain Conference showdown in Redmond.
