The 12U All Stars commemorated the end of the 2017 baseball season last week with a nice treat: They got to attend a collegiate baseball game in Portland.
After Tuesday’s 11-1 mercy-ruled loss to La Grande at the Oregon State Championships at Pioneer Park in La Grande, the memorable season abruptly came to a close. Head coach Ken Brock is not looking at the 2017 summer campaign as a failure whatsoever.
LA GRANDE – With its season on the line, The Dalles 12U All Stars used a standout defensive play in a critical moment to stave off a late rally.
At the start of last week’s District 5 Little League Tournament, head coach Ken Brock and his assistants, Ben Donivan and Phil Hukari, ushered out a group of young, determined 12U athletes, who were vying for a championship.
Last year, The Dalles Little League All Stars entered District 5 Tournament play with a chip on their shoulders and won. With Styles DeLeon, Braden Schwartz, Riley Brock and Nolan Donivan as the holdovers from the district-winning 10U group, that quartet, with head coach Ken Brock, know there will be a target on their backs at the start of 12U action this Saturday in Redmond.
At a recent AAU tournament played in Hermiston, sixth graders from the Columbia Gorge Basketball Academy went winless in four games. This past Sunday at the Gorge Hoops Invitational, this group, coached by Ken Brock and Phil Hukari, left nothing to chance, going 5-0 with an average margin of victory of 19.6 points to capture championship honors.
The season may be over, but The Dalles 10U Little League All-Stars came about as close as possible to possibly snagging a championship at the Oregon State Little League Tournament.
PRINEVILLE – Bend North has been a thorn in the side of The Dalles Little League. That 10U group eliminated them from postseason play in 2015, and earlier in tournament action, posted a 16-4 mercy-rule win. Needing to win two games in order to keep its season alive, TD’s 10U All Star team scored mercy-ruled wins of 16-3 and 12-2 Saturday over Bend North to capture a District 5 Championship in games played at Parr Lumber Field in Prineville.
The countdown for Prineville begins. For The Dalles’ 10U Little League All Stars, many of the players expressed a high level of excitement for the opportunity to play on the big stage and be a part of something special. Most of all, this group, coached by Ken Brock, is going in with a little bit of chip on their shoulders.
