MADRAS – With a state berth on the line, the Ione Cardinals broke open a 28-23 lead entering the fourth quarter with a 17-6 run to pull off the 45-29 victory over the Dufur Rangers in girls play Saturday.
All the Dufur Lady Rangers needed was fast-paced opening half to impose their will on Arlington. Dufur peppered Arlington for a 33-15 halftime lead and staved off a second-half rally to secure a 36-27 triumph Tuesday in girls basketball play in Arlington.
In their first two volleyball matches, the Dufur Rangers salvaged a split, winning a five-set thriller over Imbler Tuesday in Athena. Following a sweep loss against Weston-McEwen, Dufur battled it out versus Imbler with each team swapping wins in the first four sets.
Over their last six games, the Dufur Rangers have won four times and are one game behind Horizon Christian, Sherman and Ione, so following Saturday’s 47-28 victory over Condon-Wheeler, the Rangers stayed within striking distance to make it a four-horse race for the final three district playoff spots.
Alexus Outlaw, Kierstin White and Jessica Brown each surpassed double digits, and the Dufur Rangers cruised to a 25-10 halftime lead enroute to a 52-24 drubbing of North Lake Friday in the opening round of the Ranger Basketball Tournament at Dufur High School.
Chloe Beeson scored 11 points, and Kayla Bailey poured in eight, but a 17-2 second-quarter run by Culver gave it a 34-13 halftime lead enroute to a 52-35 victory Tuesday at Dufur High School.
DUFUR – After a one-year break, Kayla Bailey is back and ready to be a driving force behind the surge of the Dufur volleyball team. As one of four setters on the roster, Bailey is looking forward to the chance to take over the role vacated by graduated senior and all-state winner, Sydney Reed.
MORO – Desiree Winslow scored 19 points, Emily Hill added 14 and the Huskies moved into fifth place in the Big Sky Conference after a 54-49 victory over Dufur Thursday in Moro.
Through the first round of Big Sky Conference girls’ basketball games, there is a four-team race for top honors, with a half a game separating Arlington, South Wasco County, Horizon Christian and Condon-Wheeler. Even after Friday’s one-point home loss to Condon-Wheeler, the Dufur Rangers are sitting in fifth place, still within contention of a district berth.
