The Dalles softball can take a lot from Tuesday’s loss – they kept fighting until the very end. Down 11-1 through four and a half innings, TD scored a run in the fifth and added five in the sixth to get to within a four-deficit, but could not finish the roaring comeback in what ended up being an 11-7 loss to No. 7-ranked Hermiston at 16th Street Ballpark.
After Wednesday’s 9-0 victory over Mountain View, The Dalles softball team is riding a nice little streak at the right time. The stakes are raised even higher now, especially with Columbia River Conference action coming up this Friday.
The Dalles softball team wrapped up two days of tournament action Friday afternoon in Hillsboro with wins over Corvallis and Gresham by a combined 19-9 margin for three wins in four games to move up to No. 10 in the 5A rankings.
Last season, The Dalles softball team needed eight games to score 43 runs and didn’t earn its first win until April 22. So far this spring, the Riverhawk bats have come alive with 44 runs scored through four games, they are already one win from matching their 2017 total and moved up to No. 5 in the 5A rankings following a 25-3 mercy-ruled dismantling of Redmond in non-league softball action Tuesday at 16th Street Ballpark.
There was a valuable lesson learned from last season. The Dalles softball seniors Emma Weir, Jodi Thomasian and Kathryn Bradford all have the mindset of moving forward and not looking back.
As one of two returning senior veterans on The Dalles volleyball team, all-league hitter Kathryn Bradford is using this time to be a leader by example and a sounding board for the program with several underclassmen.

Mountain View chased The Dalles starter Sierra Watson from the game after jumping ahead 5-0 in the bottom of the first on its way to an 11-3 softball win Wednesday in Bend.
