Running enthusiasts could not ask for better conditions ahead of the 14th annual Valentine’s Day run/walk held on Feb. 8 at Lewis and Clark Park in The Dalles.
All told, there were 91 participants signed up and ready to put their best foot forward.
Last summer, coach Oscar Nuñez fielded assembled 10U and 12U girls soccer teams, and both groups combined for a 5-2-2 record with a 21-9 scoring margin as the 10U squad secured first place at the Beaverton Cup.
Restocked with a revamped 10U roster this time around, the Westside Timbers—Copa Gorge posted a 4-0 record, capped by a 3-2 penalty-kick victory on a goal by Josie Gunderson to defeat Oregon City SC and repeat as champions.
“I am very proud of what this group of girls accomplished this summer,” Nuñez said. “With a lot of new faces, they came together and exceeded expectations.”
Greeted by sunny skies, 70 local harriers had a chance to shine under top conditions for the 11th annual Valentine’s Day 3k, 5k and 10k River Trail run/walk at Lewis and Clark Festival Park in The Dalles with several putting out solid numbers along the way.
In late December, Mother Nature tends to work fits on all levels of athletes, but last Saturday, the more than 40 participants were greeted with blue skies and a high of 52 degrees as they duked it out in The Freeze Your Gizzard Blizzard 3k, 5k and 10k fun run/walk at Lewis and Clark Festival Park.
Two days before the 10th annual Valentine’s Day Trail event, The Dalles saw a complete snow whiteout. However, the temperatures took a sharp turn and reduced the snow on the trail to nothing, so 79 running enthusiasts had the opportunity to participate in the 3k, 5k and 10k run at Lewis and Clark Park.
